Sergeant Robinson departed Bergstrom AFB, Austin, Texas in 1968 for the first of five Southeast Asia (SEA) tours of duty with the United States Air Force. His military roles as an USAF Strategic Air Command Escape and Evasion Armed and Unarmed Close Combat Instructor, Civic Actions Officer and Superintendent of USAF Recreation Services provided Robby an experience like no other.
During his first Southeast Asia tour, Sergeant Robinson created, designed and instructed the first close ground combative hand-to-hand fighting program for over 500 U.S. military personnel and Royal Thai security forces and local law-enforcement agencies in central Thailand. He later teamed up with the late Kajukenbo Master Richard Peralta to introduce Kenpo Karate, Judo and Jujitsu.
NEWSPAPER ARTICLES...

Well known as GI JAI BUN, or GI (military person) Good Heart, Sergeant Robinson’s achievements and humanitarian efforts were often publicized in local newspapers. Below are some samples: Jan 17, 1969 - Takhli Times Thailand - Counter Insurgency training for U.S. and Royal Thai security forces gears up. Robinson, former Strategic Air Command Escape & Evasion Armed and Unarmed Close Combat Instructor develops the training curriculum and hands-on trains over 500 security, special forces personnel under harsh Southeast Asian field conditions during the "Secret War in Southeast Asia". Sergeant Robinson’s crusade to assist children born with facial deformities was highly publicized.
HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS...

Sergeant Robinson earned the Thai accolade of GI Jai Bun by his many selfless acts of good will. Several children, victims of Polio and other severe facial deformities were provided medical attention, free of cost to them, providing these children the opportunity to live a complete life. U.S. and Thai medical personnel became partners in these civic action humanitarian programs. (Photo included Sgt. Robinson, Air Chief Marshall Chaloey Warintrakom, Commanding General, Royal Thai Security Forces, and a Thai youngster). In 1971, Robby presented the Thai Electric Authority District Chief $4,000 for installation of electricity for the entire Ban Wang Kong Thai village. USAF Deputy Group Commander is present to represent US presence in-country.
Even after retiring from the USAF, Robby and wife Renee continued volunteer civic action/humanitarian projects which were aimed at improving the health and welfare of Thai children and those in need far removed from the major urban cities. Beginning in 1999 Robby and Renee began to finance an annual free lunch program for children in an elementary school in Ban Muang Noi and provided education scholarships for Thai military dependent youth at several Royal Thai Air Force Bases. After examining the school building in Ban Muang Noi, a donation was made to reconstruct the building to include walls, windows, fans and computer equipment. The Robinson’s also provided funds towards the construction of a medical research library and health center in Lamphun, Thailand.

Sergeant Robinson’s contributions were prominently recognized by Royal Thai Military Officials. He was decorated by the Royal Thai Air Force Security Forces with the coveted 1st Class, Supreme Regimental Badge of Honor, an award usually reserved for commissioned officers. Continuing to support the Kingdom of Thailand with civic action/humanitarian assistance, Robby was awarded the prestigious Royal Thai Air Force Sky Divers Wing Badge in 1992.

High praise was also extended by a Letter of Commendation by Air Chief Marshall Chaloey Warintrakom, addressed to General Montgomery C. Meigs, Commanding General, US Forces in Europe and 7th Army, for the Robinson's magnificent and unprecedented humanitarian support and their roles as American Ambassadors of Goodwill. GENERAL CHALOEY WARINTRAKOM ~ MENTOR, COLLEAGUE, FRIEND, BROTHER...
U.S. military personnel who have been stationed in Takhli Thailand can most assuredly tell stories, some legendary, about Chaloey Warintrakom. Sergeant Robinson met Captain Chaoley Warintrakom in 1968 and fast became friends.
