Training Camp and Competition in Cuba

USA Judo, in cooperation with the Cuban Judo Federation has agreed to a training camp and competition in La Habana, Cuba on  May 15-22.  We are opening this learning and competition opportunity to all USA Judo Club coaches and athletes as well as any member in good standing of United States Judo Federation and United States Judo Association.

It is a well known fact that Cuba has one of the best judo programs in the world, with that small nation winning medals in both men and women World and Olympic competitions year after year. At the 2008 Olympic Games, Cuba ranked 2nd only to Japan in the number of medals won in judo in those Games.  Coaches and athletes attending this camp will work with Cuba's National/Olympic coaches as well as that country's National Team Members.  The camp will be held in the Capital city of La Habana with training taking place at the National Team Training Center.

The camp will be over a 7 day period.  Those attending will have to travel, leaving Miami on 5/15 and returning on 5/22.  Those coaches, parents and athletes attending will have to travel on the set dates as there are no other choices for travel except on those dates.

The camp is open to Junior and Senior athletes as well as club and national level coaches.  Any junior athlete traveling will need to be accompanied by their parent.

There will be training with the Cuban National Team and coaches for one week with a competition to be held at the end of the camp.

This is a unique opportunity that coaches and athtletes will have to learn from the best in the sport of Olympic Judo while experiencing the culture of Cuba.
